Music & Sounds

This is my centre page for posting my musical compositions in progress. Some of the samples are near completion and are set as teasers for attracting potential critics by the means of comments you can add at the bottom of this page. Not all, but I personally think compositions can have exterior input, especially for the fact that I have no technical background and poor mastering capability as I have no reference speakers (studio monitors) to set the sound correctly. Therefore pointers and dynamic inputs are welcomed mostly.

Unique but Strange
My compositions are unique, although I cannot guarantee you will like it as I have tendency to create weird music, mostly themed and with specific purpose. Some call it industrial, and some others will say it is fusion and many more attributes will be shot at for sure. I have tendency to use samples raw or apply FX’s very gently, I love raw sounds, I love distortion and yes, broken notes and I never use the metronome. If well applied, not only a note out of place can find place, but can also create new sound for the attentive ears, as most artists tend to use the same range in perfect harmony, but forget disharmony can be fine too if well applied, in other words playing a few ugly notes can be good sounding if the sequences and goal makes sense.

Sound Asleep
I also like to direct sounds straight to the brain and not the other way around as with stereo sound, where sounds seem to come from left or right, far or close, hence many of my compositions usually concentrate directing the sound to your brain deliberately. If one abstracts enough while listening, the brain can and will distinguish an astonishing amount of tracks, and at one point, it is possible to set aside only one particular sound and listen to it all the way to the end of the song. Your mind can set aside all instruments to another state and listen to only one because if a composition and sound are set in such a particular way, the brain will not get disturbed and will trance beyond what you are aware of, and let you be aware of that unawareness. But to do this, you cannot be self conscious, thus let yourself be hypnotized by the music itself and your brain will concentrate linearly. Having said that, I use this technique when I create my special music for falling asleep, as I never found solution to my problem by listening to professional made CD’s and other specialties. I find some of my own music works best, but I will let you guess for yourself when the time comes, if you have trouble falling asleep, it may help, and those compositions will clearly have a label telling you they are made for such purpose. I will also explain in detail how to apply this technique.

Eventually people will realize I do what I feel like doing at the moment and my tendencies come and go. I always created and still continue to do music without being able to understand or apply appropriate musical fundamentals, even less how to play an instrument properly other than being able to scratch the guitar a bit, pluck the bass here and there, hit the drums coherently and play piano or keyboard, all by the sound of it. Of course I know my Do, Re, Mi… and I do know many technical terminologies, but I have no clue how to actually implement them, and quite frankly, I do not care. Kind of a pity as a feel I could do much more if I understood certain techniques. As my kids often say, my compositions are catchy, grabbing, yet something’s missing. I understand what they mean, not enough side dishes other than the main sound I try to emphasize. But there is a reason for that, in fact, you folks will notice I often name my compositions with [Feat. ], just like you will find in some of the song titles in the music industry where the addition of a “feat.”, means a singer is featured on that particular song other than the main singer on the album.

However I do not sing and I have no featured singers as all my music is instrumental, in a sense. So who is featured in my compositions if it’s not a person? A sound of course! One of the best examples of this naming procedure will be seen in one of my first composition I will release; Nightfear [Feat. Obama], as you can see there is a [Feat. Obama] after the main title of the composition, this clearly indicates that the title contains and emphasizes president Obama. Another composition I will soon release is with the sound of Sputnik, yes, the real Russian satellite signals sound recorded by the USA, Germany and Czechoslovakian authorities in 1957. Therefore, you now know that when you see somewhere in the title [Feat. __name__], it will either accentuate that sound or it means the composition is themed. However, I may not use such a naming convention, as it is at my discretion.

Natural Evolution
Also, I feel that my lack of understanding of a few fundamentals makes me explore sounds others shun. I am aware I create passages where it is not quite right, I am aware that some notes do not match in sounding with others , but the very fact that I am aware of the faults leads me to create new discoveries because I obstinate using them anyway, even when I find the good combination. This leads me to believe that I either have a wrong perception of sound or am able to appreciate sounds others do not when set in certain ways. Either way it exposes me to natural evolution, in other words, I will become better and better while creating new stuff for the ears, and for whoever likes it, you will be lucky as I will output compositions for quite some time, probably all my life or until physically unable, I love music and it is only the beginning for me in the public light, known as Retro-Evo.

San André – Unmastered Sample

The name San André reminds you of a video game called San Andreas? Indeed, San André was given this name because it was inspired by Grand Theft Auto – San Andreas. It has that subtle Jazzy, Blues mix with many more style along the way. Enjoy this bit of sample of the ongoing work and expect full version and mastered release anytime after 2012. ;)

Die Gedanken – Unmastered Sample

Die Gedanken is German for “The thought”. Another of my compositions and one of my numerous titles, and because of this very huge collection at some point I must use languages from abroad to label and express the idea.

Mystery Misery – Unmastered Sample

Another example of my work aimed at movies, tele-series and such. As a composer this is what I create mostly, wasting my time building up a huge amount of titles that are not very suitable to listen in general, but excellent for background and some splash moment in movies, where emotion is a must. I just hope one day one of my compositions will be noticed. :) For now I leave you a simple sample taken from a 8 minutes plus composition.

NightSky – Unmastered Sample

Loudness war anyone? This is a good example of extreme loudness… but only the sounding of it, the peaks are quite far and clear. You will not discern this in the 128kbps and purposely crippled sample above. This title is especially composed to give a good continuous vibration, even more so in tight areas such as inside of a car.

Wild Streets – Unmastered Sample

…indeed wild enough, slow paced. ;)

The Right Stuff – Mastered Sample

The only mastered sample of the bunch so far, this composition demonstrates a typical final EQing, levelling and other touch up before compressing the file for listening, in other words for production use. Remember, the sample you are listening is 128kbps, at 320 it’s another ball park.

Slow For Sure But Just Fine – Unmastered Sample

Do I need to say anything about this composition? The name and sound of it is suggestive enough don’t you think, this is another abstract composition.

Für Meine Familie – Unmastered Sample

Für Meine Familie is probably the only composition were it is aimed and dedicated primarily to my own close family, my wife, my kids my simplest dog Tobi, even my dog enjoy sitting next to me and listen what I do. The name of the composition is derived from Für Elise, from Beethoven. Of course there isn’t much to compare, not even the notes, but listen carefully when the full version will come out, and you will distinguish some similar transitions and air, after all it was inspired by it. This composition might take a few more months before final, so enjoy a bit of my only classical style composition I ever made.
